In October 2018, The Command Zone released two podcasts, Exactly How Good is Sol Ring? Commander Gameplay STATS (pt1) and Which Color is the Strongest? Gameplay STATS (pt2) that discussed their findings on EDH gameplay stats. They analyzed over 300 games and came up with some pretty interesting results on issues ranging from "What is the impact of playing an early Sol Ring?", "Which Color is the strongest?" and "Are more expensive decks performing better?".
In their second podcast, they also presented a list of cards that performed well in their survey. I thought that having access to such information would be really cool for deckbuilding purposes, but although they published the raw data, no list was available anywhere. I wrote a couple of scripts that helped me come up with such list using The Command Zone raw data. It was really cool to see the ranking of cards based on gameplay performance. Which performs best? Cultivate or Thran Dynamo? Hero's Downfall or Doom Blade? I decided to write a column, Pursuit of Knowledge on the subject.
As I wrote my articles, I figured out that the ranking of cards, although important, was only part of the equation. It's all good to see hundreds of cards ordered, but when you want to build a deck with good enough number of ramp cards, card advantage, target removal, board wipes, and a number of cards that support a given synergy, going through such list several times can be quite time consuming. But what if I could tag each card in advance and use this information to generate the lists automagically?
This site is the result of this process. Not only does it give you access to all the decks that have been played on various YouTube channels, showing the results of each game, but it also uses this information and a separate card database that contains metadata on cards to come up with recommendations. It analyzes each gameplay deck to determine average synergy and comes up with ranked lists in various category to help with deckbuilding process.
Current web site has a rough interface and the features are limited for now, but I intend to enhance its content as time goes on, based on user feedback. I will also try to keep it up-to-date with as much gameplay data as possibly can and more precise card metadata.
